Shortlisted for the Royal Television Society Awards, in the Craft & Design, Programme Content category.
Following the success of 'Animation Nation', Kiss My Pixel were commissioned to creatively direct the 3 part series, Comics Britannia; a dazzling three-part series celebrating the classic comic strips of the past 70 years, which became the keystone of the Comics Britannia season.
Narrated by Armando Iannucci, it featured interviews with the creators of iconic characters from The Beano, Bunty, Commando, Viz, 2000AD, V for Vendetta and many more.
Our brief was to create the feeling that each programme was contained in it's own comic. The audience would enter the comic in the opening sequence, and not feel that they had left it until the final page closed at the end. An added challenge was that each programme needed to reflect the style and era of it's content, whilst retaining the feel of the branded series as a whole.
Working closely with each director, Kiss My Pixel styled each programme's timeline from the first frame to the last, creating comic book style interview environments, dynamic parallax sequences and special effects, styling and grading all digital rostrum, live action and archive.
